As
many as 1,300 Amazonian plants have known medicinal applications and
over 235 are planted in the ReNuPeRu Medicinal Plant Garden located in
the upper Amazon basin of northern Peru. When you walk through
the rainforest, you’ll notice that some leaves are tattered and eaten
while others are untouched. Over the years, plants have evolved
with various strategies to keep from being eaten by insects and
destroyed by pathogens. Manufacturing toxins and disease-fighting
chemicals has been one of their most successful adaptations for defense.
We’ve discovered that some of these same compounds address our own
ailments and problems.
Through keen observation and sacred ceremonies, long before scientific
explanations were available, Shamans began experimenting with the
chemical cornucopia of plants that surrounded them. Over
centuries, these indigenous people have been the gatekeepers of the
forest’s immense potential for medicinal healing. Their knowledge
is the basis for many of our scientific discoveries. While
identifying the best remedies for their patients, they continue
improving their knowledge with each generation.
We have all benefited from the collective wisdom of Shamans.

Tortuga Coffee is a fundraiser with a conscience
Save the World...Drink your Coffee!
Earn $4.00 for each
bag of organic and fair-trade certified coffee sold through
www.tortugacoffee.com.
Tortuga Coffee sells Sol Colibri Coffee from
Costa Rica. Sol Colibri
Coffee represents hundreds of small, family-owned farms in the Dota
region of Costa Rica who are dedicated to their environment, community
and producing a great cup of coffee. While
many U.S. companies import green coffee beans and roast and package in
the states, Sol Colibri Coffee keeps all of the labor in their local
community from growing to roasting to packaging.
Our easy-to-navigate website was created to make ordering quick and
easy. Customers simply select your organization from a drop-down
menu during the check-out process and your group earns credit for every
bag of coffee sold in your group’s name. Orders are shipped
directly to the customer’s home or office. No inventory, no
distribution, no money handling.
To sign up for our fundraiser, contact us at 1-888-894-3603, ext. 10,

Did You Know?
There
are few street signs in Costa Rica and even fewer addresses. Most
addresses are written in terms of a well-known
building or landmark; often the local Catholic Church, cemetery, or
another permanent location. Considering buildings can burn down, be torn
down, or replaced with another building, finding an address in Costa
Rica can be quite challenging!
